2016 Vintner Dinner Series

This is our 15th annual Vintner Dinner Series. Owners Chris & Lois Mahoney continue this series to showcase Texas Wineries alongside our notable cuisine. A popular event among guests of the Inn and local residents alike, the Vintner Dinner Series provides the opportunity to taste and explore local wines, learn the winemaking process, and how the proper pairings enhance the flavors of food. Join us for a Saturday evening of wine and gourmet food you’re sure to love.

Saturday evenings from January 23 until February 27, excluding Valentine’s Day, vintners and/or their representatives will be on hand to explain their winemaking process and the unique character of the wines they create. Our Chef, Chris Huffman, will prepare a truly memorable dinner. Choosing fresh, high quality and seasonal ingredients, his masterful creations are specifically designed to highlight the unique character of the various wines. This year the Vintner Dinner Series schedule is as follows:

January 23, 2016 – Westcave Cellars Winery, Round Mountain, TX
Just 30 minutes from Austin, Westcave Cellars Winery is nestled in the oaks along scenic Hamilton Pool Road. The winery is a few miles west of Hamilton Pool Preserve, Reimers Ranch, and Westcave Preserve. Whether you are sightseeing at one of these local parks or traveling to the wineries in Fredericksburg, Dripping Springs and Driftwood, They invite you to visit Westcave Cellars.

January 30, 2016 – Singing Water Vineyards, Comfort, TX
The name Singing Water describes the wonderful sound that fills the air as the waters of Bruins creek cascade over the waterfall on the property. Recently they received Gold, Silver and Bronze medals for all 6 wines entered in Houston, San Francisco, San Antonio and the Lone Star International Wine Competitions. Their Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Sunrise, Merlot, Texas Reserve, Freedom and Sweet Lupe are becoming very well known throughout the Texas Hill Country and beyond! The winery offers beautiful scenic grounds with picnic areas which host many art and music events throughout the year.

February 6, 2016 – Dry Comal Creek Vineyards, New Braunfels, TX
From a fledgling winery in 1998, Dry Comal Creek Vineyards now produces 8,000 cases a year, with expansion plans to produce 12,000. With only 5 acres of good soil, Dry Comal Creek Vineyards focuses on growing Black Spanish, which is resistant to Pierce’s disease. While we grow only one grape variety, don’t let that fool you. Dry Comal Creek has developed a series of award-winning specialty wines including French Colombard (Demi-Sweet and Bone Dry), Orange Muscat, White Black Spanish, Comal Red, Black Spanish and 1096 Port – each of them spectacular in their own right and meant to be drinkable now.

February 20, 2016 – Pontotoc Vineyard, Fredericksburg, TX
Pontotoc Vineyard was established in the unique terroir of the Llano Uplift in the Northern Hill Country community of Pontotoc, Mason County, Texas. Pontotoc means “Land of Hanging Grapes” and the vineyard was planted in the fertile red sand soil of a high valley surrounded by pink granite outcroppings and sandstone hills on a farm originally founded by the German Emigration Company in 1872.

February 27, 2016 – Texas Hills Winery, Johnson City, TX
The rolling hills and the soil are much like that of the Tuscan countryside, in Italy. Once Kathy and Gary saw the location that makes the Texas Hills Vineyard they decided to have an Italian influence to their wines. They even planted vines that are thought of as Italian, plus a few more: Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese, Orange Moscat, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, and Syrah. All of the grapes grown allow wines to be produced with a decidedly Italian influence. Dale manages the vineyard and works to produce the highest quality Texas grapes with which to produce the wine. Gary takes what is produced and oversees the wine. Kathy manages the tasting room and invites you to drop by and sample wines and shop the gift shop.

Saturday evenings from January 17 until February 28, excluding Valentine’s Day, vintners and/or their representatives will be on hand to explain their wine making process and the unique character of the wines they create. Our Chef, Brian Maher, is committed to preparing a truly memorable dinner. Choosing fresh, high quality and seasonal ingredients, his masterful creations are specifically designed to highlight the unique character of the various wines being offered. This year the Vintner Dinner Series schedule is as follows:

January 24, 2015 – Bella Vista Ranch, Wimberley, TX
In 1996 Jack Dougherty, who grew up in the orchards of Santa Clara valley and later had a career working as an executive in the computer industry, purchased a dilapidated ranch with the intention of making it a working ranch. Today it has become an agricultural destination spot. Jack realized that Texas Hill Country soil and weather are akin to the Mediterranean, and he could not resist a stab at growing olives and grapes. Bella Vista Cellars produces a range of Italian varietals, as well as blackberry wine, from the fruit off the Ranch. They are passionate about high-quality, fresh produce and products.

January 31, 2015 – The Austin Winery, Austin, TX
As an urban winery, we are not tied to vineyards that we own. In fact, we don’t own any. Rather, we work with established family- owned vintners and grape growers from select regions to find the most expressive terroir for a particular varietal. Once we secure sourcing, we go to work crafting our wines.

February 7, 2015 – Bell Springs Winery, Dripping Springs, TX
Bell Springs Winery offers a selection of wines crafted from various regions across Texas and the United States. Their philosophy is great tasting wines with a little bit of something for everyone. Visiting guests can enjoy a large outdoor covered deck and tree lined lawns perfect for picnics. Bring along some food, grab a bottle of wine and hang out!

My wife and I just spent three wonderful days at the beautiful and relaxing Blair House Inn. The Dallas room was perfect, the grounds were well kept, and the atmosphere was like staying with friends. But the best of all was the cooking! Wow! We loved everything from the amazing banana bread to the incredible eggs Benedict – and the desserts with wine before going to bed? Delicious! We would recommend the Blair House to anyone and everyone!
