Wellness Vacation at Blair House Inn

February 12th, 2014 by Lois Mahoney

The pursuit of a wellness vacation is something we take seriously here at Blair House Inn. Recently, this article came across my desk from traveltowellness.com. I think it expresses the same ideas we hope for our guests. Life in the Texas hill country is a relaxing and rejuvenating experience. Something we want to share with as many guests as possible. Whether it be a romantic getaway, spa day with the girls, or preparing healthy meals at our cooking schools. Your time here can be as exciting or relaxing as you wish. Find the goal and direction you want to travel and let us help you get there. Come to the Texas hill country for your wellness vacation at Blair House Inn.

Wellness Vacation

What to ask yourself before booking a wellness vacation.

1. What is the intent or goal of my wellness vacation?
Perhaps it’s to lose weight? Learn how to make healthier food choices? Enjoy a bit of “Me Time” to reconnect with Self? Learn how to manage stress? Give it some thought. What do you really need to maintain, promote or kick-start a healthy lifestyle?

2. How much do I want to spend on this time away?
The last thing you want to do is stress over money. Remember you don’t necessarily need to travel far from home for a wellness vacation. Depending on where you live and your goal, you may find a suitable wellness vacation destination in your own town or within an easy drive.

3. Who might be my best wellness vacation companion?
Think about someone you simply love to enjoy time with. Significant other? Sister? Girl friends? Perhaps you’d love to meet new like-minded people. Try to avoid travelling with people who may be a trigger for stress. Instead, look for travel companions who calm you and make you feel good about yourself.

4. What kind of food do I want?
Since food is the foundation of a wellness lifestyle, and what we eat is something that we have absolute control over – think about what type of food you want on your wellness vacation. Healthy gourmet? Buffet with lots of healthy food options? Calorie controlled? Fresh, local, seasonal? You decide.

5. How do I want to spend my daytime hours?
Getting physical in the great outdoors? Participating in yoga classes and educational sessions? Hanging out at the spa? Enjoying local foodie tours and cultural activities? All of the above? Or, something else? Your answers will help you trim the list of possible destinations.

Bella Vista Ranch Olive Oil Pressing: Blair House Inn

September 22nd, 2013 by Lois Mahoney

Bella Vista Ranch

Blair House Inn is surrounded by some excellent Texas hill country wineries. One winery in particular, Bella Vista Ranch, also produces delicious olive oil on their property. Now is the season to start pressing the olives. They invite everyone to come out and watch as they begin olive oil pressing to produce their next tasty batch. Every Saturday from late September until December see the Bella Vista Ranch in full working order!

First Texas Olive Oil Company is a family-run business, specializing in FRESH olive oil and other fresh, complementary foods. Their products are based on the fruits and vegetables grown at the Bella Vista Ranch in Wimberley, Texas – blackberry and raspberry bushes (planted between six varieties of olive trees), figs and many other fruits and vegetables.

In 1996 Jack Dougherty, who grew up in the orchards of Santa Clara valley and later had a career working as an executive in the computer industry, purchased a dilapidated ranch with the intention of making it a working ranch. Today it has become an agricultural destination spot. Jack realized that Texas Hill Country soil and weather are akin to the Mediterranean, and he could not resist a stab at growing olives. The olive trees and berry bushes on Bella Vista Ranch were planted in 1998 and they opened the “frantoio” (olive pressing facility) in year 2001.

Bella Vista Cellars produces a range of Italian varietals, as well as blackberry wine, from the fruit off the Ranch. They are passionate about high-quality, fresh produce and products. They invite you to visit their tasting room to sample the olive oil, wine, and other gourmet foods available.

This is definitely something you do not want to miss. Bella Vista Ranch is proud of what they do and Blair House Inn is proud to tell our guests. Take a look at our availability for the fall season. Book a stay with us and make a trip to watch the olive oil pressing magic. Head out to the Texas hill country soon for a relaxing weekend at Blair House Inn.

Guest Reviews: Blair House Inn

September 9th, 2013 by Lois Mahoney

Texas summer

We wanted to take a moment to share some positive guest reviews for the Blair House Inn. August was one of our best months ever. Our BBQ Cooking School sold out and was a big success. Lots of anniversaries, honeymoons, and romantic getaways before the school year starts. Labor Day celebrations in Wimberley and the surrounding Texas hill country brought in tons of people. Everyone wanted to get one more weekend of fun before all work and no play. Blair House Inn is committed to providing the absolute best for our guests. We take pride in our efforts and are proud to share our guest reviews with everyone to show the impact we have on our guests. Please take a look at some guest reviews and think about how much fun you could be having with us at Blair House Inn.

 Guest Reviews

We are not a big fan of B&B’s however the Blair House is in a class of its own. What we disliked about our experience at other inn’s was just the opposite at the Blair House. The property and rooms are maintained as though they are brand new. Service is superb. The inn keepers engage with their guests professionally and are not overbearing knowing when it is time to rest a conversation . If your looking for a quiet getaway with someone special, the Blair House is an excellent choice. Larry_Sylvia2013, Magnolia

My wife and I just returned from a few days at the Blair House Inn, celebrating our 24th anniversary. This place is truly a slice of paradise. Beautiful B&B, beautiful grounds, a pool overlooking the hill country, incredible staff, and the gourmet breakfast, wow… It’s awesome! There are many things to do, or you can relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We will return to the Blair House Inn! I would highly recommend this place! — Jimmy J., San Antonio

5 of 5 stars

This place is wonderful! Beautiful, peaceful & excellent service. The rooms are nicely decorated and the beds are very comfortable. Nice relaxing pool for just unwinding and the wine & dessert in the afternoon is a nice treat. We are planning to come back for our anniversary. Crosa3, Houston

My wife and I enjoyed our second stay at Wimberley’s Blair House early August to help celebrate my wife’s birthday. Our first visit was about twenty years earlier, but Blair House has only gotten better – more rooms and services (like massages).
The location is great for exploring Wimberley’s and the surrounding Hill Country area. Rooms, beds and shared areas are great and the food is outstanding! The site is terrific with beautiful grounds complete with hummingbirds and country setting. Lawrence J., Rowlett

5 of 5 stars

My wife enjoyed our 50th Anniversary at Blair House and we totally enjoyed ourselves. I can safely say without any reservations that Blair House rates among the top two in inns for us. We have stayed at Blair House in the past and really enjoyed it; and plan to revisit maybe in the Dec ’13 to Jan ’14 time-frame when the weather is a little crisp and then we can enjoy their winter hospitality. The chef at Blair House is superior. The meals are prepared with a great deal of TLC; and, the owners and their staff are just fine folks; Texas folks you know! Jim D., Montgomery
