Hike at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area
Texas is known for its wide variety of landscapes, and one of the most scenic of them is right here in Hill Country. Though one of the most popular things to do in Texas Hill Country is to visit the many wineries in this part of the state, there are far more things to see and do while you're in the area!
Of all the wonderful things you might be tempted to do while you're here, you should put visiting Enchanted Rock State Natural Area at the top of your list. From sunrise to sunset, Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is arguably one of the most scenic parts of Texas Hill Country to visit.
Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is named for its namesake 425-foot pink granite dome that towers above the landscape. It's one of the most impressive landmarks in Hill County and a fantastic place to spend a day.
People have been drawn to this towering dome for thousands of years, and it's easy to see why. Trips here are about so much more than the dome, though that certainly figures prominently in any trip to this enchanting spot.
There are almost eleven miles of hiking trails at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area, including trails taking you to the top of the dome itself. The trails open before sunrise, so if you're an early riser, we highly recommend you head here early enough to see the sun rise over the Hill Country landscapes below. However, they are also open until 10 pm, so it's also a great place to watch the sunset.
If you stay in the park until the sun sets, stick around a little longer for the skies to go dark. Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is one of the best places to enjoy some stargazing in Texas Hill Country. It's one of the country's few designated International Dark Sky Parks. Fall is a great time to enjoy a little stargazing!
Enchanted Rock State Natural Area is also a popular place for rock climbers. Even if you aren't attempting the climb yourself, watching them take on this mighty granite dome is fun.
