Day 1 – An Outdoor Enthusiast’s Dream
Explore a State Park
No Texas Hill Country itinerary is complete without a day of exploring one of the many state parks in the area. Most of these incredible nature preserves offer unique attractions or sights like waterfalls, rivers, and even a former U.S. president’s ranch.
If you want to go hiking, Hill Country State Natural Area is a fantastic spot. Over 5,000 rolling acres of canyons, creeks, and plateaus that provide a taste for the beautiful Texas Hill Country landscapes. Lyndon B. Johnson State Park & Historic Site is another great place to see a piece of the Hill Country’s past. The 36th president of the U.S. grew up on a ranch adjacent to the park, and you can take self-guided tours of the LBJ Ranch and the surrounding WWI farm community. You also won’t want to miss the gorgeous waterfalls at Pedernales Fall State Park. Take a dip in the cool water at the bottom of the falls for an immersive experience.
Cool Off on a River
There’s no better feeling than taking a lazy float down one of the rivers in the area after hiking through Texas Hill Country. The Blanco River, Cypress Creek, and the Comal River all over fun and relaxing experiences with beautiful sights.
The Comal River in New Braunfels draws in larger crowds. So if you want to enjoy a casual tubing adventure with fewer people, Cypress Creek in Wimberley is the best option. You’ll also find nearby Jacob’s Well and the Blue Hole, which are fantastic swimming spots.
Day 2 – A Foodie Paradise

The Devil’s Backbone is also a fascinating and beautiful drive. Blanco State Park and Canyon Lake are great stops along the loop. Its haunted history filled with ghost sightings makes for an exciting adventure. Check out Purgatory Road near the Devil’s Backbone Tavern. Stories claiming to see apparitions of Spanish Monks, Confederate Soldiers, and Native Americans create an ominous atmosphere that adventurers will love.
Tour Texas Wine Country
If you had your fill of the outdoors, spend the last day of your itinerary taking a tour of Texas Wine Country. Our region is the second-largest American Viticultural Area in the country and is home to 15 native species of grapes as well as 25 different kinds of wine.
You’ll find a handful of wineries within an hour radius of Wimberley. Driftwood Estate Winery and Dutchman Family Winery are among the most notable. Whether you’re a connoisseur of chewy cabernets or simply enjoy sipping on a variety of wines, this is a fantastic complement to your Texas Hill Country getaway.
Watch the Stars
The night sky in Wimberley puts on a show every evening. Once the sun goes down, the stars come out, and the lack of light pollution creates a stunning scene. You can enjoy stargazing from our grounds here at The Blair House Inn!
Bonus Activity – The Bat Emergence
If you visit between March and October, a trip to Old Tunnel State Park in the evening is a must. As the sun sets, you’ll encounter thousands of Mexican free-tailed bats emerge from their cave to feed at night. This is an incredible sight and one of the most unique Texas Hill Country experiences.
