Here at The Blair House Inn, we offer a one-of-a-kind culinary experience. Our passion for cuisine and the 100% natural ingredients that go into every dish spills out into each of our Texas Hill Country cooking school classes. We strive to create a fun and welcoming environment where hands-on experience, proper cooking principles, and professional culinary techniques provide you with the skills and confidence needed to become an expert in your kitchen. We even send you off with a recipe book filled with delicious dishes that your family and friends will love. Just make sure you bring sturdy (athletic shoes), casual clothes, your sense of creativity, and of course, an appetite!

We offer a Three-Day Texas Hill Country Cooking Classes to our guests once or twice a month, featuring a variety of exciting cuisines served with local flair! Whether you are passionate about cooking or want to learn, this class is for you.

16 hours of hands-on fun await you through three days and six classes (two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners) filled with all of the necessary skills and techniques needed for you to be the culinary champ of your kitchen. We use fresh, hand-picked ingredients from local farmers as well as our Inn’s herb garden, creating an authentic Texas Hill Country cooking school experience. Of course, after each lesson, you get to enjoy your creations with your fellow students in our beautiful dining room with a complimentary wine pairing.

Whether you want to be a barbeque guru or a seafood expert, our Texas Hill Country cooking school provides you with an incredible getaway and a collection of culinary secrets that will help you become the head chef of your household!

Note: We are more than welcome to accommodate any food allergies with advanced notice. Our Texas Hill Country cooking school classes have a limit of eight guests, so book ahead to secure a spot.

Typical 3-Day Cooking Class Schedule

Day One

  • Arrival at the charming Blair House Inn by 3:00 pm.
  • Your first demonstration will begin with our Executive Chef in our commercial kitchen at 4:00 pm.
  • After dinner, you participate in a short discussion with our Chef. This will include an itinerary and recipe assignments for the next two days.

Day Two

  • The chef will await you at 7:45 am and your first lab will begin by preparing breakfast.
  • After enjoying your meal you will have a short break to explore the Hill Country and return to the kitchen by 10:00 am. At this time you will receive instructions and break off to prepare you assigned recipes for lunch.
  • An afternoon break will be after lunch and at 3:00 pm you start to prepare your evening dinner.
  • Once complete you will have a feast of the finest foods to enjoy and top the evening off.

Day Three

  • You will once again report to the kitchen at 7:45 am and begin breakfast preparation.
  • A small break will be allowed and then you will enjoy preparing a picnic lunch to have on the Blair House grounds or take home with you.
  • This will conclude your three-day course at approximately 12:00 pm.
2 Day CS 1

2-Day Cooking Class (By Arrangement)

To experience life as a gourmet chef and enjoy a great Hill Country getaway, sign up for an individual Wimberley, Texas cooking class at Blair House.

These classes are specifically designed for our guests who cannot find time mid-week to take one of our themed cooking classes. The individual cooking classes begin on Friday mornings at 10:00 am. Class continues on Saturday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, and then again from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

Classes are designed to give participants the opportunity to work one-on-one with our chef. Limit – 2 guests per class. Please book your individual cooking class at least two weeks in advance.

In each class, students and the chef will work together in preparing the five-course dinner served on Saturday evening. The topic will vary depending on the menu, but in each class, you will focus on a wide range of cooking techniques that can be applied to any cuisine.

Individual cooking classes are $200.00 plus tax and a $40.00 gratuity per person. Rooms and the Saturday evening dinner are additional.

Local residents living within a 25-mile radius of our property can take advantage of the weekend cooking classes. We will open any weekend dates to the public two weeks prior to the date requested if the class has not been reserved by guests staying at our inn. Residents can call us at 512-847-1111 to be put on a waiting list.

BBQ Camp

You’ll be the envy of your friends and family once you learn the secrets to preparing wonderful meals on the grill. Try your hand at Cedar Planked Wild King Salmon with Jerk Spice and Mango Salsa, Glazed Baby Back Pork Ribs, Smoked Beer-Can Chicken, Texas Brisket, and Peach Cobbler with Home-made Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.


BBQ with Fresh Herbs

Learn the secret of preparing tasty dishes by incorporating fresh herbs into your cooking. Using herbs that you harvest straight from the Blair House Herb Garden, you will be amazed by the difference these little seasoning gems can make as you prepare Garden-Fresh Carrot Soup with Mint Chiffonade & Edible Flowers, Maple & Herb Brined Pork Roast with Sauce Moutardè, Herb infused Oils, Cilantro Pesto, Jalapeno Mint Sorbet, and French Lemon Basil Cream Sauce. Plus learn to create your own signature vinaigrette!

Classic French
Learn the art of haute cuisine. Create exciting fare such as Shrimp Scampi, French Onion Soup, Coq au Vin, Steak au Poivre, and Beef Bourguignon. Learn the art of roasting canard (duck) served with an orange sauce. Prepare delectable desserts like Chocolate Torte with Raspberry Coulis and Crème Caramel. Our Executive Chef Instructor will teach you basic French techniques that you can apply to all of your home cooking.


Country French
Our Executive Chef Instructor will teach you basic French techniques that you can apply to all of your home cooking. In the process, learn how to make dishes like Steak Diane, Poulet Wellington, Raspberry Tarts, and Chocolate Crème Bruleè. Plus Sauces Francias 101! Never again feel like recipes are written in a foreign language!


Last Meal of the Titanic (French Flavors)
We pulled straight from the Titanic’s first-class menus to deliver this unique culinary and historical experience. Learn how to cook dishes that were popular in the Pre-World War 1 era including Filet Mignon Lily, Waldorf Pudding, Consommè Olga and Plum Pudding.

Hill Country Holiday Feast & Baking

Get in the mood for the Holidays. Learn a variety of ways to cook turkey and side dishes. Make holiday dishes such as Mesquite Smoked Turkey, Chocolate
Truffles, Pumpkin Cheesecake, Ginger Cookies, Classic Pecan Pie, Sweet Potato Brulée, Pecan and Sage Cornbread Dressing, and Sausage Stuffed Pork Tenderloin with Cranberry Port Glaze! Make this holiday traditional, but with a twist!

Get in the mood for the Holidays with our new Inter-Continental Holiday Cooking School. This class will cover a wide range of holiday cuisines from across the world. Stay tuned for more details!

Come enjoy the taste of Italy as you prepare classic dishes such as Osso Buco Milanese, Roasted Red Pepper Risotto with Pine Nuts, and Italian Espresso Tiramisu. You’ll learn traditional Italian sauces such as Fresh Basil Marinara & Roasted Garlic Alfredo, and how to make fresh pasta and potato gnocchi.

If you can’t make it to the Mediterranean this summer, let the Blair House take you on a culinary tour of the region from the Strait of Gibraltar to Cypress with plenty of tasty stops along the way! You will prepare Risotto, Hummus, Pita Bread, Pasta, Fruits de Mer, Calamari, Classic Greek Salad, Focaccia, Polenta and Crema Catalana. These are just a sampling of what you have to look forward to on your journey.

Spend 3 days & 2 nights in the beautiful Texas Hill Country while learning a variety of New Orleans cooking skills and celebrating Mardi Gras! This class will focus on the two main cuisines in and around New Orleans – Creole and Cajun – and will deliciously reflect their mix of Spanish, African, and French heritages. You will learn to prepare dishes such as award winning Gumbo, Blackened Snapper, Cajun Barbequed Shrimp, Louisiana Brined Roasted Loin of Pork, King Cake and the classic Beignet

The Texas Hill Country has a long tradition of German culinary influences. Experience Oktoberfest with Blair House Inn and learn some classic dishes such as, German Pot Roast known as Sauerbraten, Pork Schnitzel, Bratwurst with Sauerkraut and Potato Pancakes, and Braised Red Cabbage. End your meal with rich German Black Forest Cake and Apple Strudel for dessert. I’m sure we will find some room for a German beer or two. Proust

Learn to make vinaigrettes, marinades, and flavored oils to enhance your experience in making your vegetables more flavorful and delicious. Squash Chowder, Charred Broccoli, Eggplant Meatballs with Spaghetti Squash, Grilled Cauliflower Steak, Onion Jam and Smoked Mushroom are some of the dishes that will help elevate the traditional vegetarian fare. Finish up your meal with some of our special desserts: Sweet Potato Tart with homemade Cinnamon Marshmallow and Basil Lemon Sorbet.

This class will teach the technique and history of Spanish cuisine. Traditional favorites like paella and arroz con pollo will serve as a backbone for the flavors that make up Spanish style cooking. Enjoy potato and chorizo trinxat, tortilla espanola, salmorejo, and a traditional favoritecocido, a stew made with chicken, pork, chick peas, vegetables, and smoked paprika. Discover the influence and taste of Spanish cuisine around the world.

You can make the most of your visit to our Texas Hill Country cooking school weekend by extending your stay at The Blair House Inn. If you stay for a minimum of three nights with us, you’ll receive 10% off of the published nightly room rate.

  • Our Three-Day Cooking Classes are $340.00 plus tax and a $75.00 chef gratuity per person.
  • Rooms and the Saturday evening dinner are additional.

The Blair House Inn also offers a “Tag-A-Long” option for guests staying with a registered cooking school participant. This allows the guest the chance to enjoy each of the meals created by the students without all of the preparation. You’re free to get out and explore the beauty of Texas Hill Country or relax on our gorgeous grounds!

  • Our “Tag-A-Long” option is $180 plus tax and a $36.00 gratuity.
