We strive to create a fun and welcoming environment where hands-on experience, proper cooking principles, and professional culinary techniques provide you with the skills and confidence needed to become an expert in your kitchen. We even send you off with a recipe book filled with delicious dishes that your family and friends will love. Just make sure you bring sturdy (athletic shoes), casual clothes, your sense of creativity, and of course, an appetite!

We offer a Three-Day Texas Hill Country Cooking Classes to our guests once or twice a month, featuring a variety of exciting cuisines served with local flair! Whether you are passionate about cooking or want to learn, this class is for you.
16 hours of hands-on fun await you through three days and six classes (two breakfasts, two lunches, two dinners) filled with all of the necessary skills and techniques needed for you to be the culinary champ of your kitchen. We use fresh, hand-picked ingredients from local farmers as well as our Inn’s herb garden, creating an authentic Texas Hill Country cooking school experience. Of course, after each lesson, you get to enjoy your creations with your fellow students in our beautiful dining room with a complimentary wine pairing.
Whether you want to be a barbeque guru or a seafood expert, our Texas Hill Country cooking school provides you with an incredible getaway and a collection of culinary secrets that will help you become the head chef of your household!
Note: We are more than welcome to accommodate any food allergies with advanced notice. Our Texas Hill Country cooking school classes have a limit of eight guests, so book ahead to secure a spot.

Typical Three Day Texas Hill Country Cooking Classes Schedule
- Arrival at the charming Blair House Inn by 3:00 pm.
- Your first demonstration will begin with our Executive Chef in our commercial kitchen at 4:00 pm.
- After dinner, you participate in a short discussion with our Chef. This will include an itinerary and recipe assignments for the next two days.
- The chef will await you at 7:45 am and your first lab will begin by preparing breakfast.
- After enjoying your meal you will have a short break to explore the Hill Country and return to the kitchen by 10:00 am. At this time you will receive instructions and break off to prepare you assigned recipes for lunch.
- An afternoon break will be after lunch and at 3:00 pm you start to prepare your evening dinner.
- Once complete you will have a feast of the finest foods to enjoy and top the evening off.
- You will once again report to the kitchen at 8:00 am and begin breakfast preparation.
- A small break will be allowed and then you will enjoy preparing a picnic lunch to be taken on a Hill Country outing to a local Texas Winery or Farm.
- This will conclude your three day course at approximately 2:00 pm.
Cooking School Themes
You’ll be the envy of your friends and family once you learn the secrets to preparing wonderful meals on the grill. Try your hand at Cedar Planked Wild King Salmon with Jerk Spice and Mango Salsa, Glazed Baby Back Pork Ribs, Smoked Beer-Can Chicken, Texas Brisket, and Peach Cobbler with Home-made Vanilla Bean Ice Cream.
BBQ with Fresh Herbs
Learn the secret of preparing tasty dishes by incorporating fresh herbs into your cooking. Using herbs that you harvest straight from the Blair House Herb Garden, you will be amazed by the difference these little seasoning gems can make as you prepare Garden-Fresh Carrot Soup with Mint Chiffonade & Edible Flowers, Maple & Herb Brined Pork Roast with Sauce Moutardè, Herb infused Oils, Cilantro Pesto, Jalapeno Mint Sorbet, and French Lemon Basil Cream Sauce. Plus learn to create your own signature vinaigrette!
Join us as we celebrate good fortune, happiness and longevity for 2021 at our Chinese New Year Cooking School! This class will include such delectable dishes as Life Long Noodles, Lions Head Meatballs and Tang Yuam (Glutinous Rice Balls). We will also dive into the cultural significance of each dish and the myths & customs surrounding the Lunar New Year. Come join us around the Hot Pot!
Learn the art of haute cuisine. Create exciting fare such as Shrimp Scampi, French Onion Soup, Coq au Vin, Steak au Poivre, and Beef Bourguignon. Learn the art of roasting canard (duck) served with an orange sauce. Prepare delectable desserts like Chocolate Torte with Raspberry Coulis and Crème Caramel. Our Executive Chef Instructor will teach you basic French techniques that you can apply to all of your home cooking.

Last Meal of the Titanic (French Flavors)
We pulled straight from the Titanic’s first class menus to deliver this unique culinary and historical experience. Learn how to cook dishes that were popular in the Pre-World War 1 era including Filet Mignon Lily, Waldorf Pudding, Consommè Olga and Plum Pudding.
Join us for this highly beneficial and educational class on Heart Healthy Cooking! Our Executive Chef Instructor will teach you how to make delicious and healthy dishes including Butternut Squash & Turmeric Soup, Avocado Ice Cream and Seared Salmon with Roasted Cauliflower! This class will also cover gluten free dishes such as No-Bake Strawberry Shortcake Icebox cake and Sweet Potato Kale Frittata.

Get in the mood for the Holidays. Learn a variety of ways to cook turkey and side dishes. Make holiday dishes such as Mesquite Smoked Turkey, Chocolate

Come enjoy the taste of Italy as you prepare classic dishes such as Osso Buco Milanese, Roasted Red Pepper Risotto with Pine Nuts, and Italian Espresso Tiramisu. You’ll learn traditional Italian sauces such as Fresh Basil Marinara & Roasted Garlic Alfredo, and how to make fresh pasta and potato gnocchi.
Spend 3 days & 2 nights in the beautiful Texas Hill Country while learning a variety of New Orleans cooking skills and celebrating Mardi Gras! This class will focus on the two main cuisines in and around New Orleans – Creole and Cajun – and will deliciously reflect their mix of Spanish, African, and French heritages. You will learn to prepare dishes such as award winning Gumbo, Blackened Snapper, Cajun Barbequed Shrimp, Louisiana Brined Roasted Loin of Pork, King Cake and the classic Beignet.

- Our Three-Day Cooking Classes are $309.00 plus tax and a $65.00 chef gratuity per person.
- Rooms and the Saturday evening dinner are additional.
The Blair House Inn also offers a “Tag-A-Long” option for guests staying with a registered cooking school participant. This allows the guest the chance to enjoy each of the meals created by the students without all of the preparation. You’re free to get out and explore the beauty of Texas Hill Country or relax on our gorgeous grounds!
